Regional Recognition Cleveland hosts AIA Ohio Annual Convention, including statewide awards event A IA Ohio, a society of the American Institute of Architects, recently held its 78th annual convention in Cleveland at the Wyndham Playhouse Square. As a state component of the American Institute of Architects, AIA Ohio represents over 2,000 architects throughout Ohio. The statewide event hosted architects and associate members from through-out Ohio for four days of continuing education and fellowship. The event began with pre-conference seminars on Wednesday, October 12. Thursday morning, attendees took in a presenta-tion by Architect Stanley Saitowitz from San Francisco, California, followed by educational sessions throughout the day. Friday Cleveland Museum of Art Expansion morning, Fred Collopy from the Case Dragon City Exhibition Hall Western Reserve Weatherhead School Owner: Elite Enterprise Group and Renovation of Management kicked off the day as Firm: GBBN Architects Inc., Cincinnati, Ohio, Owner: Cleveland Museum of Art the morning keynote speaker. Attendees Architectural Design; Fangdong International Firm: Rafael Vinoly Architects, New York, NY, Design then walked over to the Halle Building Architectural Design & Consultation Co., Beijing, China, Architect and Architect of Record; Vitetta, Philadelphia, where they interacted with over 50 Construction Documents, Construction Administration PA, Historic Preservation industry vendors and exhibitors. More continuing education sessions followed. Afterward, attendees dined in Westlake Reed Leskosky, Cleveland, Architect of Record Firm: Braun & Steidl Architects, Columbus, Ohio the State Theatre Lobby before returning to the Ohio Theater for the AIA Ohio 7KH2KLR6WDWH8QLYHUVLW\ Design Awards. +RSNLQV+DOO5HQRYDWLRQV AIA Ohio annually examines archi-$,$2KLR±+RQRU$ZDUG $NURQ&ROXPEXV tectural projects of the last five years to select only the most outstanding projects for the Design Awards. These projects serve as a tribute to the design excellence of Ohio architects. This year, the jury, chaired by Farshid Moussavi, reviewed 99 entries submitted by 48 different firms. Eight were selected to receive an AIA Ohio award and two were recognized with special mentions.
